“Hi guys, Thanks so much for the work you did this week. I’m really delighted with it. I’ve written the following review for your web site.

I had a seven year old Insignia with 100K miles that had been losing coolant rapidly ( I needed to top it up every day). Another garage had diagnosed it as a likely blown cylinder head gasket and a £1000 repair estimate… and I was considering writing off the car given its age/mileage.
I went on line to ClickMechanic and got a quote of just under £500 (from Northwest Performance) to change the head gasket. At this much lower cost I decided it was worth doing and I confirmed / booked the repair.
The mechanic from Northwest Performance (I don’t know his name) came out and collected the car and, within a short time, had managed to diagnose the real fault .. which was a leaking water pump. After speaking with me he went on to repair the water pump and delivered the car back to me at a total repair cost of just £150 (instead of the original £500).
I have had the car back a week now and already done several hundred miles and it hasn’t lost a drop of coolant… so the repair looks to be a complete success.
Apart from the low cost and the accurate diagnosis, the thing I really liked about this service was the fact that I only had to deal with the mechanic himself… no middle men or front desk staff .. and the mechanic seemed to really know what he was doing.
I will definitely be using the service again the next time we need some work done on any of our cars.”

“A-z were very good and honest in my dealings with them.
I am very disappointed with Click Mechanic; it seems that they did not understand the nature of the repair required or the intricacies of my vehicle, which they would have known about because when checking my registration all the details of my car are available.
First they gave me a quote which I accepted, then they stated that I could not have my car repaired at the time of request but could have done the following day but that would involve recovery from my home at an extra charge, I reluctantly agreed and paid because I needed my car back on the road as soon as possible.
After my car had been recovered I was contacted by A-z to say that the time allocated by Click Mechanic had been grossly under estimated because for my vehicle to replace a fan belt, the whole front end needs to be removed to give access.
Next, the self adjusting fan pulley was seized; this would need replacing and possibly the water pump because the fan pulley was seized onto the water pump shaft. A-z persisted with the removal of the fan pulley and managed to remove it intact, so no need for a replacement or a water pump, good news, then the belt tensioner looked in need of replacement because this may have been the cause of the fan belt failure but that proved alright eventually because the culprit of the failure turned out to be the power steering pump mounting bracket which had sheared a bolt had had dropped onto the fan belt, this item is only available from the main dealer so we had to order one and wait because it was not in stock.
Eventually all was repaired and my car returned but the cost had escalated to nearly four times the original quote.
When Click Mechanic first told me that A-z needed more time, I argued with Click Mechanic that I had a contract with them for a quoted price and had paid this up front, so any problem with the quote was down to them to make good, but instead of doing the right thing and sorting it out for me they went to A-z and said that the customer is being awkward and will not pay the increase, so rightly so A-z told Click Mechanic that they would not do the job, fortunately A-z called me direct to talk it over and I relayed my side of the story and my problem with Click Mechanic.
The outcome of this is A-z were very communicative and honest about the job and my car was repaired as quickly as possible, so I would highly recommend A-z Mechanics for anyone within our area, but I will not be using the services of Click Mechanic again, I will not be able to trust them with any quote or assistance during the job.

The average life of an air filter in a car is about 15,000 miles. Do air filters deteriorate with age?

Yes, air filters do deteriorate with age and will need replacing periodically. Over time they can get clogged up with dirt, polluting particles and insects from the air. As the engine needs an optimal mixture of air and fuel to achieve the most efficient performance, the air filter must be kept clean and replaced when necessary.

Is the air filter checked during an MOT?

No, the air filter is not checked as part of the MOT test. However, a clogged or dirty air filter can affect performance and lead to issues with emissions which is checked during an MOT test.
