“Jermaine was great and very helpful and good communication too. Easy to get on with him and more knowlegable than expected. The problem initially looked promising by starting and remaining for a while but as we both thought possible that a new battery may be needed but sadly lost the charge overnight. Following the initial booking I received his contact number and able to expand more why the battery may need more than just a jump start and that's what I needed to know but still agreed to see what he could do and he did. Also text'd afterwards to check on progress. Would recommend.”

“The whole experience with ClickMechanic has restored my faith in car maintenance.

I can’t speak more highly of Matt’s knowledge and experience with modern car maintenance. Matt turned up on time with the correct parts and specialist tools that enabled him complete the work to a main-dealer level, but at my home without the inconvienience of taking it to a garage (which would have been expensive in my case because the car was in limp mode and would have needed a trailer). The final bill (which was the original quoted figure) was 50% less than the lowest of 3 quotes I received from local garages. When should you replace BMW oil sump pan?

Quite simply, as soon as there is a known problem with it. Any issue can very quickly escalate and leave the engine without oil and damaged.

How common is an oil sump pan replacement on my BMW?

It isn’t a common job, however with more and more speed bumps and potholes, the frequency is increasing as motorists spot the too late and hit the obstacles a little too hard.

How can I extend the life of my oil sump pan?
The only thing you can do is to be vigilant about what is on the road and not to go over kerbs etc wherever possible.

What happens during an oil sump pan replacement on my BMW?

  • Mechanic will drain the oil from the sump.
  • The oil sump pan will be removed and the bottom surface of the engine block cleaned.
  • A new sump pan will be fitted and sealed with a new gasket or sealant and bolted into place.
  • The engine oil will then be replenished and a new filter fitted.
  • Mechanic will run the engine and ensure there are no leaks.
