Frequently asked questions about car sensor repair & replacements

Read our answers to questions about car sensor repair costs, symptoms and more.

How much does it cost to replace a parking sensor?

The cost of replacing a parking sensor can cost between £100-£200 depending on the make and model of the year and the location of repair.

How can you tell if a parking sensor is bad?

Most parking sensors are located on the rear end bumper cover. For a basic check (for most modern cars) follow the steps:

  • Switch the ignition on
  • Put the car in reverse gear with the handbrake on
  • Bring your ear close to the sensors on the bumper and check for a "ticking" sound
  • If you notice any of the sensors not making a "ticking" sound, then it is likely the sensor is faulty.

As a more reliable testing method, a qualified mechanic takes off the bumper, providing access to the sensor and then uses a multimeter to test and check each sensor.

What causes parking sensors to break?

Some common reasons parking sensors can fail:

  • Technical glitches related to the ECU (Electronic Control Unit)
  • Damage to the wiring or loose wiring
  • Mechanical damage caused due to debris and moisture
  • Exposure to extreme temperatures
