Shane has obviously learned his craft as a motor mechanic from the very best of God Father’s. On time with a personable greeting and straight into working mode. Initial interrogation of the cars system and questions about the faults found at the initial breakdown, then straight into action to replace the damaged alternator, a job that my local garage wouldn’t attempt let alone without the aid of a hydraulic lift. I had a very stressful experience with this repair and regret using the service. I was in a difficult situation with my car and needed repairs quickly, which is why I decided to use ClickMechanic. After the work was completed and the car was returned, I noticed several issues that concerned me. More recently, a friend who is more experienced with cars helped me inspect the vehicle. When we opened the bonnet and then went to close it, he noticed that the bonnet support rod retaining clip (the small clip that holds the bonnet prop rod in place when the bonnet is closed) was missing. He pointed this out to me immediately because he had been with me when I originally inspected and purchased the car and remembers that the clip was present at that time. Because I am relatively new to car ownership, I had not realised this part was missing until he showed me how it should normally look on another vehicle. In addition, the boot strut on the left side no longer holds the boot open and the boot now falls down immediately when opened. I also noticed a black, oily residue around the left boot strut, which appears to indicate that the strut has leaked and failed. When I raised this concern with the mechanic, he stated that this was already the condition of the car when he collected it, which does not match my understanding of the vehicle’s condition prior to the repair. When I raised these concerns with the mechanic, he strongly denied that any damage had occurred while the car was in his care. The conversation became uncomfortable and I felt that my concerns were dismissed rather than properly investigated. The replaced parts were also not returned to me. My understanding was that replaced parts are often returned to the customer so they can see what has been changed. I can confirm that the windscreen wipers and radiator appear to have been replaced, but I did not receive the other parts and therefore cannot independently verify all the work that was carried out. As someone who is relatively new to car ownership, this experience has left me feeling uncertain about what work was actually completed and unsure about trusting the process. My car may be older, but it is still important to me because I rely on it for daily travel. Overall, I wish there had been clearer communication and better reassurance about the work that was carried out on the vehicle.
