Jon owns and operates SMS Autocare and has been running the business for over 15 years in the Slough area. Prior to setting up SMS Autocare Jon completed his apprenticeship and was then a mobile mechanic for 5 years. The team at SMS Autocare are fully trained and able to deal with all makes and models of cars (including EV and hybrid) and tackle all repairs and MOT's including motor bikes. The team at SMS operate a garage but are fully committed to a collection/drop-off service and have 5 dedicated full-time drivers. For the collection and drop-off facility Jon will contact customers the evening before the booking and inform collection times.

Couldn't recommend more. The car was picked up promptly at 08:00 and dropped back off at 15:00 with all the clutch work completed.
Price was no more than local garages but with the ease of not having to get it there and get back.

MINI Mini Alternator replacement

The job was done and the alternator is working now. Although, one bolt of my right headlight is now loose thread (wasn’t informed about it) just noticed it when I am opening the hood and it is catching on something from that side. Not a big deal for me but I could have fixed it easily if I was made aware. I still want to give five stars but I find that their communication is very inefficient. First, they said Shane will be the mechanic but some other guy came and it wasn’t communicated prior. I think it could be a safety issue because anyone can come and pretend to be the mechanic (just a thought). Second, I asked if he can confirm if the alternator is really not working prior to carrying on with the job. Because when I read the tasks included on ClickMechanic, it states that it will be checked as well. Third, the job includes change of alternator belt. The mechanic didn’t say that he didn’t install a new one because the part he brought is too small. I was only informed that he didn’t install it when I checked the belt and asked. Fourth, I asked for the old alternator back but before he even explain about the surcharges he already put it in his van. After explanation about surcharges I completely understand it. The mechanic is friendly though and I don’t think he is at fault for all the communication gaps. Lastly, I still got charge for the alt belt even though it wasn’t installed. I messaged them and I was told that alt belt fee will be refunded. I just hope that alt belt won’t be my next problem because it will cost me money again. My main point here is a good communication. I should know who is coming and what to expect. Also, feeding back the owner if certain parts cannot be installed so I can make an informed decision if I should insist to wait for the correct part before completing the job or just trust the mechanic that the old belt will be okay.
