Jon owns and operates SMS Autocare and has been running the business for over 15 years in the Slough area. Prior to setting up SMS Autocare Jon completed his apprenticeship and was then a mobile mechanic for 5 years. The team at SMS Autocare are fully trained and able to deal with all makes and models of cars (including EV and hybrid) and tackle all repairs and MOT's including motor bikes. The team at SMS operate a garage but are fully committed to a collection/drop-off service and have 5 dedicated full-time drivers. For the collection and drop-off facility Jon will contact customers the evening before the booking and inform collection times.

The mechanic was supposed to be John, I never saw him, another girl came to pick up the car, a complete stranger and without identification, I thought I would never see it again
…then John called me and started explaining to me how I had to change the brake pads on all four wheels, I asked him why, because on Friday I changed both front tires and the guy said everything was fine, if he needed to change the brake pads, he would have told me, when I told him not to touch anything, Joe started to argue that there was a lot of wear and tear and he would write a file to the MOT and I would have two weeks to change them, it started to look like blackmail, I told him to change them, even though I wasn't convinced that they needed to be changed
…when the car was returned I wasn't presented with the replaced brake pads, I still don't know how worn mine were, separately on the windshield there was a scratch and a small dot, on the driver's side down, and before they weren't there, I know because on Friday the car was for a tire change
I used Click Mechanic for both of my cars before, I have at least 4 years of experience with you, for the first time I can say that I am not satisfied, next time I don't want John or I will use another platform not Click Mechanic ☹️😕👎👎.

Thank you for taking the time to raise your concerns. We would like to clarify the facts surrounding your vehicle’s visit, as there appears to be some misunderstanding.

Your vehicle attended our workshop for an MOT test. As part of our normal process, the vehicle was inspected prior to the MOT in order to identify any potential failures and avoid unnecessary delays.

During this inspection, the front brake pads were measured and found to be below 1.6 mm, which is below the legal minimum and an automatic MOT failure. The rear brake pads were also noted to be heavily worn and close to the legal limit.


This information was clearly explained to you before the MOT was carried out. You confirmed that you were already aware the brake pads were low and advised that you intended to replace them yourself at a later date. We explained that this was entirely your decision; however, if the vehicle proceeded to MOT in its current condition, it would fail, and you would then have 10 working days to rectify the issue and return for a free retest.

At no stage were you pressured or “blackmailed” into authorising any work. The decision was left entirely with you. We provided clear costings for replacing both front and rear brake pads, which you declined. You then authorised replacement of the front brake pads only, as this was the minimum requirement to bring the vehicle to a legal MOT-pass standard.

Regarding the brake pads removed, we are happy to explain that unless specifically requested at the time of repair, used components are not routinely returned to customers.

With respect to the windscreen, no damage was reported or observed by our technician prior to the vehicle leaving our premises. We take vehicle care seriously and would not knowingly return a vehicle in a damaged condition.

We regret that you feel dissatisfied on this occasion; however, we are confident that all work and advice provided was accurate, transparent, and compliant with MOT regulations.

I didn't get to meet Jon, but met his son and one of his coworkers. They were very polite and curtious.. the work was completed in good time. The extra repair that was found to be needed was communicated to me well and the extra charges were very reasonable.

Excellent work for a fair price. The only issue is that the car was delivered back with a deflated tyre and the response to this was not satisfactory.
