The car was unfortunately terminal but they gave some recommendations of where to go and try and get it fixed

Mechanic found the issue very fast but did not look to repair? I feel I over estimated the initial requested work that should have allowed around two hours of labour on the car to look at resolving the issue.

Hi Raymond..
thanks for your feedback, as we explained to you, we found your thermostat plastic housing to be at fault, that was leaking oil and coolant from a failed seal/gasket. Therefore we actually did as you wanted in diagnosing your issue/s.
Unfortunately your car needs a specific part replacing (the thermostat housing) that will have to be a follow on procedure.
We understand your concern as the car wasn’t fixed on site, but the job was only to diagnose the issue, not to repair.
