Wayne arrived (it cost £75.00) for him to come out (this is relevant to the rest of the story). My car wouldn’t start and he came to the conclusion that it needed a new battery. I asked him how much they would cost and his response was "a couple of hundred". Wayne left to retrieve the new battery and came back to fit it. I’d gone back inside when he’d left, only to see that I’d had a notification from my bank saying that a payment had been rejected. He then rang me to let me know the payment wasn’t going through. He was charging me £420 something, that’s why it was rejected, if you were wondering. He said the battery would be £200 so I had the money ready, which can only mean, when broken down, he charged around £200 for his LABOUR. Already paid £75 for him to come out. Who needs £200 to literally swap a battery???? He also didn’t make this clear at all until he was already charging my card and I’m not sure he would have discussed it with me at all if the appropriate money had been in there. Just to top it all off, the new battery worked for about a week and upon speaking to another garage, they have confirmed that the issue is actually with the start motor. I’m a young female so it makes me wonder whether he would have tried his luck so much if the client was a grown man. Read more

Well Lydia I’m surprised at this.
I diagnosed your problem correctly. The starter motor problem has been a new fault and is not related to the battery. I identified your problem, gave you a quote (which you agreed), and resolved your issue within a few hours. I’m not sure what else I could have done? The price of the battery for your car is out of my control! The time it took to collect and fit the battery, reprogram the car was honest and done within the quoted time. I’m really not sure why you are not satisfied!

Yes Wayne was very helpful. Before he arrived I checked the engine and noticed that a connection had not been made to one of the units. Having repaired many cars as a youngster in the 50s and 60's I can't cope with computers. Anyway he turned the engine on and it was fine. Clearly it was the part that was not connected. I don't know why as it had been in for a computer check. Presumably a mechanic had looked in the engine. Given a lawyer could see the problem I'm surprised they didn't.

I have to say I am slightly confused at the low score. You specifically booked a Plug In Diagnostic, I completed the diagnostic using the latest state of the art machinery whilst you sat in the passenger seat. I explained every step of the process and what we would need to look for and why. You explained that a previous mechanic had failed to plug in the Air Mass Sensor and that you had reconnected the plug before I arrived. Your car reported a myriad of faults relating to that component, and I cleared those faults from the vehicles memory for you leaving you fully working and good to go and I explained all that to you.

It’s fair to say I was slightly (10 mins) late due to a previous job over running (I’m sure you would agree I cannot leave my customers with no wheels on their car and rush off to the next job) but I called you more than half an hour before to explain I was slightly late. Other than leave you with a usable/repaired car I’m at a loss to understand what else I could have done for you - I am just a mechanic.
