I booked a mobile mechanic for a very specific reason - my bonnet wouldn't open and I ideally needed access that afternoon as my windscreen was due to be replaced (not to mention I had a long journey at the end of the week so wasn't exactly safe not to be able to check oil / washer fluid level etc). Mechanic arrived on time so no problems there. Confirmed the issue was as I described by trying the latch (and yes, as stated, bonnet wouldn't open) and when questioned on next steps said it was definitely the cable that will have gone and the only way to get access to replace it was to damage the front grill. However he didn't have a cable with him and first call to Europarts said it wasn't in stock. Obviously not an ideal situation given my urgency, so I asked if it would be possible he did get the bonnet open - even if it did cause damage to the grill - and I would then source the part myself at a later date. Acknowledging my urgency, the mechanic decided to call around a few more places and found one cable in stock at a main dealer around an hour away - and even better, stated it would less than £50 for the cable! He asked what time my windscreen replacement was due, advised I request them to come after 3pm to give him a chance to get the part, which I duly phoned up and actioned. I asked if he needed me to pay for the part and he said no, it would be included in the final bill and off he went - all good I thought. Two hours passes - no sign of the mechanic returning. I checked my email inbox to see if perhaps an update had been sent through there (I had no other contact number or the like) and spotted there was a quote for more work. Thinking I may as well go and get it approved, I was a bit shocked to find said quote was for £328.18, with nearly £200 of that being quoted as "parts". Clearly a bit misleading given our earlier conversation, but thought "perhaps labour and parts has been mixed up, or there has been a typo" but given I hadn't been told they quote had to be accepted in order for him to proceed (or else I'd have done that before he left) figured no problem, will clarify the situation when he gets back. Another hour - no mechanic has returned. Another hour - you get the idea. End result, I'd paid £110 for a mechanic to tell me what I already knew, not get my bonnet open as requested (damage to grill or otherwise), had to cancel my windscreen repair and wasted my time entirely. And real insult to injury? I took my vehicle to be looked at later in the week (yay, more cost) so that even if my windscreen was still damaged I could at least check the levels pre-travel - and not only did they not have to cause any damage to the grill to access but it wasn't actually the cable that had snapped after all, it was the release mechanism that had seized. So the £110 diagnosis was still wrong, the part that caused all this aggro was redundant and I had almost agreed for him to damage my bodywork completely unnescessarily! All in all a really disappointing experience and a complete waste of my time and money. Read more

Work carried out well, and no issues.

This could have quite easily been a bad review, as mechanic didn't arrive on time, but this was due to a few issues that was explained to me over the phone. The mechanic assured me they would arrive and get the work completed. My hat goes off to the commitment and distance he travelled to get the job done. So I cannot complain.
