Mobile Autocare , Essex | ClickMechanic

Darren P
I started out with my dad in mechanics in his garage learning the trade before going to college to get my qualifications. In 2002 I set-up Mobile Auto Care with my brother Lee. and the business has grown from strength to strength and we now have 10 mobile mechanics in the team who are all fully qualified. We will inform you of which of our mechanics will be attending your job when we accept it, you'll always be in safe hands! At Mobile Autocare we tackle all types of repairs and work on all makes/models of car, so whatever the issue we'll fix it!

Very pleased with the mechanic's work; it was made to feel very easy and I was reassured by the mechanic's communication and knowledge.

I was disappointed by ClickMechanic's quote not being accurate for the work, meaning the job cost me £75 more than expected. The mechanic did a really good job of explaining why, meaning I was still very pleased with the overall outcome.

The mechanic was friendly and knowledgable. I felt that there was a breakdown or mix up in communication because my husband confirmed that the mechanic (Darren) would be arriving on Tuesday between 9:30 to 10:00 this did not happen. When I phoned Darren said that I was down for Wednesday between 10:00 to 12:00. On the phone Darren said that he would be with me at 10:00 it was actually 10:40 so I did not think that his time keeping was that good.

Darren was great very knowledgeable and spotted some important faults. The only problem was that he was two days late which was down to click mechanic's booking system and not him. This cost me €200 as I couldn't complete the purchase until I had the report from the mechanic and sterling had increased in value between Monday and Wednesday. Again this was not the fault of Darren who was excellent.

After not turning up for appointment, then calling to arrange to come later that day was still about an hour late, mechanic mis diagnosed the starting problem recommended removing ECU & sending for repair. Needless to say there was no fault, just another bill!
Click mechanic will take no responsibility & refer everything back to the mechanic, the trouble there is the mechanic wont get back in touch to sort anything. Until I managed to get hold of him yesterday & this is the contents of the call I have emailed Click mechanic.
I eventually spoke with Darren yesterday.
I thought you might be interested in the contents of the call.

The person I spoke to claimed not to have been the mechanic who came to inspect my car, I questioned this as this is the same telephone number that called me to say he would be late for the appointment & later the same number to have sent me a text message he sat in my drive. My email booking from you also said Darren would be attending.
His response was that he is the owner of the company, has over 40 mechanics, 2 of which are named Darren and all the phone calls that each mechanic makes & text messages they send are all sent through his phone number.
He followed this up with the reason for this is to stop customers calling his mechanics in the evenings when they are not working.

Yes, you have read the last paragraph correctly, this is what he claimed and while I understand this is possible with one number I also know it is illegal in this country, the rest has just made me wonder what kind of person came to my home?!

He will accept no responsibility for his poor diagnosis, pointing to the word ‘If’ in the last paragraph of his report.
He has refused a refund.
He offered to have my car picked up and taken to his workshop in Romford & his electrician look into the fault at a cost of £52 per hour taking at least 2 hours work.
He repeatedly told me of the massive favour he was doing me having it collected free of charge, ‘it must be 70 miles from Romford to Bedford! That’s 140 miles round trip, that’s 280 miles that I’m offering for free!’
Curious as to how far he would go with this scenario I agreed & he said it would be 11am next Tuesday. I agreed.... and he changed his mind. He said he would call me back once he arrived home in approx half an hour and check the worksheets to see if one of his men could tow it from Bedford to Romford sooner than Tuesday. He said if it was sooner than Tuesday my automatic car would have to be towed. Yes, you read that correctly too.
I am also left wondering why a mobile mechanic has a workshop where he employs an electrician, maybe the word ‘mobile’ means something different in Essex?

By now I’m sure you’re either laughing out loud or are shocked!

Needless to say that was just after 6pm yesterday and I haven’t heard anything more! His name is Darren Powney of Mobile Autocare. A company according to Companies House that was dissolved in April 2015

After prompt replies by Click mechanic up to this email, needless to say they too have stopped replying, who knows maybe they doctor their feedback & this will never appear.

My Advice? Be very careful

Reply from Darren:

Unfortunately I completely disagree with review as I was willing to do a 280 miles all round trip for the customer completely free of charge and all the customer had to pay for was simply the auto electricians time.
I personally think that was more than fair.
And he didn't try contacting me until the 15-03 as all prior communication was via click mechanic and not myself.
As soon as I did hear from I dealt with your situation straight away and because you didn't like what I offered you to resolve this dilemma you have left a review like that.
So unfair
