I paid for a premium pre-purchase inspection. I also asked Michael via email if he could check the car for smoke as when my daughter test drove the car it was initially quite smokey.
When I got the report it was a fairly basic tick list which gave no real indication of the condition of the car. I phoned Michael and got a much better idea of the overall condition and he confirmed he'd checked and the car didn't smoke. I was quite happy with that until the garage owner phoned me to let me know he was unhappy with the inspection. He told me he wasn't asked for any service history and that the car was only moved about 20 metres and wasn't taken on a road test. The garage owner told me that when the AA come to check the cars they are very thorough, check all the paperwork and take the cars on a good road test. He estimated Michael was finished his inspection in 20 minutes?
In the end I haven't bought the car, I used the click mechanic inspection to give me some confidence in the vehicle because I live 500 miles away and cannot check it for myself. I didn't have confidence in the inspection after hearing that it didn't include a road test and was so brief. Altogether over £200 wasted. Read more
