Gary R
I've been working on cars for 40 years in some shape or form. I started off with my father in his garage fixing cars and worked with him when I was 14 years old until i left school. I studied engineering at college and from there I worked in a motorbike shop/garage and eventually I worked at Central Tyres in Essex for a few years and then moved to a few other garages in order to gain a broader spectrum of skills and when I had that in my armoury I began my own business in 1996 and been working in it since. I am able to service all makes/models and tackle all types of repairs.

Mechanic was delayed in getting to the house, as needed to get his own vehicle on the road. After what seemed to be hours mechanic came to the conclusion was not able to get the repair work done and therefore adv would only charge for a diagnosis, part of the diagnosis was something i was already aware of (clutch kit) the other part was that apparently there was no oil in the gearbox as mechanic adv upon accesing the drive shaft no oil came out. upon taking the car to another mechanic however it became clear that this was a mis-diagnosis, as the vauxhall meriva has a release lever you have to open for gearbox oil to come out, therefore both my time and money were wasted with this booking.

Reply from Gary:

Ian,It is unfortunate you feel you have to leave me this review.
There is or has never been in my 40 Yeats experience of removing 100s of gearboxes a lever that allows the oil to run from the gearbox. There is of course a drain nut on all gearboxes as is engine sumps but on front wheel drive engines the drive shafts run on the diff in the gearbox and have oil seal to stop oil leaking out. When the drive shaft is removed from the gearbox the oil drains out but in your case none came out and the other reason for not being able to complete the job is that the drive shaft would not come out of the hub so I was unable to remove it completely.
I spent at least 1.5.-2 hours on your car with no success of removal of the drive shaft but only charged you for a diagnosis fee.I'm sure the garage gave you the incorrect information and I'm sure if you googled you find what I am saying to be correct. What you have put is not consistent with other reviews and i take my job seriously,if ever there were an issue with my workmanship i would return to correct free of charge.Hope this helps,Regards,Gary.
