Simon H
I began my career at the Arch Deacon Garage in Cambridge where I completed my apprenticeship and spent a good number of years learning the trade there. I then moved on to a number of garages before setting up my own mobile mechanic business which then grew from solely to mobile into garage services as well.

My Volvo had a broken trackrod. So the car could neither be driven nor towed.
It was a great help, having the car repaired on the spot. The arrival time slipped
somewhat, but the Mechanic did ring to apologize. Having worked myself once
in his field, I know that this kind of work can sometimes present unexpected
and time consuming challenges. Even so, the job was virtually completed within
24 hours of contacting ClickMechanic, surely a more than satisfactory result.

Mlany thanks!

My experience with clickmechanic:

The recommended work has been carried out by Simon who I have spoken too and he suggested it could well be the head gasket as everything else is all working fine and would appear that the problem is when the car is under load. No Road tests were carried out to my knowledge. If after replacement of parts as recommended and the problem remains then I can only assume that the diagnosis was wrong. Please advise A.S.A.P

Hi I didn't deem it a good idea to do a road test as the vehicle was overheating.
if I had taken it for a road test I could have caused serious engine damage with the vehicle overheating.if it is doing it under load that still wouldn't necessarily suggest the head it could be a water pump issue.i based my diagnosis on the facts that I saw and recorded.most importantly during my inspection I noticed no oil in water or vice versa or any other telltale signs of head gasket problems.furthermore the lady that greeted me at the job informed me that the vehicle had not been misfiring or anything. The coolant pipe to rad was also cold as was the radiator the whole time signifying that the thermostat was stuck shut not allowing coolant to flow to the radiator to dissipate heat.

Hi I contacted click Mechanic three times now plus personally had to call Simon after a day of no contact.. It would appear that clickmechanic are not interested in helping me as they also did not call me back after stating they would and that they are not happy with the lack of communication. I'm left with a car sitting on my drive for six days now since I had to have it towed home, the day after the work was carried out,as this was the first time the car used after being inspected and repaired or as we believed, with exactly the same problem it had before the inspection and recommended work being carried out.
I am going to escalate to clickmechanic due to the lack of response from all concerned.
I am very disappointed in the service or lack of after service I have received.
B Bartlett.

Hi Brad,

I'm sorry for the delay in our response. Unfortuantely due to the time of year our response times have been higher than usual - however we sincerely want to help resolve this issue if at all possible.

We have unfortunately not been able to reach Simon the mechanic who completed the replacement of the thermostat for more information, as I explained to you on the phone this morning - we need more information in order to take your case any further.

The information we have at the moment is that Toby has diagnosed the thermostat as faulty based on the condition of the vehicle at the time of the inspection and his professional experience. Simon has since made a replacement of the thermostat and the problem has not been resolved.

In our previous conversation with you - I understood that Simon who made the replacement agreed that the thermostat was faulty, however that there were additional faults which were contributing to the problem, is that correct?

Practically speaking in some instances of car repair, it is possible that multiple faults are contributing to a symptom which can complicate things. If Toby found that the thermostat was faulty and would cause the symptoms you're having - and it is later confirmed that the thermostat was faulty by an independent mechanic, this would suggest that the diagnosis was accurate. This is what we've been trying to confirm with the mechanic Simon.

If additional repairs are required aside from the thermostat replacement are required, we need to establish if it was possible for Toby to have known this at the time. From what Toby has written in this resolution case, it seems that he considered a possible head gasket fault, but this was unlikely due to no visible mixing of oil and coolant or other signs.

Once again, we want to help as quickly as we can - however need further information to proceed. I've called Simon and left a voicemail as well as sent an email asking for this, and will be able to provide more info as soon as we’ve spoken.

I hope this helps, however if you have further questions please feel free to ask.

Kind regards,

Chris

The above statement is not true no, at no time did Simon say yes the thermostat was faulty and there are additional problems,he just replaced it with the new one and suggest possible other problems once I myself had to call him after the exact same problem and due to no response after I contacted you, who claimed the mechanic would contact me.The problem is exactly the same no different since thermostat replacement. The car has sat on my drive unusable since it was towed home from Luton approximately 12 miles if that from my house on the 27/12/2015,which was the first time the car was used after the alleged repair.
The main problem is the lack of willingness to get this issue resolved. like I have said time and time again my car is suffering from the very same symptoms and has remained unusable for some nine days now.
If the diagnosis was correct and the work carried correct and the car tested and confirmation that there were or were not not any further issue, which is the service I thought I was paying for, then there would be no need for all the issues I'm now having with Clickmechanic.
Once again the car has exactly the same issue as before I initially contacted Clickmechanic.

I am pleased to help where I can on this matter.but as mentioned previously,I refer to my original diagnosis and that the vehicle showed no signs of head gasket problems at time of inspection and just faulty thermostat.it is possible that the faulty thermostat which was causing the vehicle to overheat subsequently caused the head gasket to go.one major factor in causing head gaskets to fail or heads to warp is overheating

Hi Toby, thanks for your response, I'm getting nowhere with clickmechanic as they are putting all the onus on the mechanics. The problems you highlighted in your diagnosis report, hot top hose and cold bottom hose no circulation etc.. are all still present even after alleged repair. No parts old or new were left behind after the alleged repair....It's as if nothing has been done. And yes my wife's car is still sat on the drive unusable with the very same problem..
I'm am going to call clickmechanic yet again to see if they actually intend to do something as I paid them the money to get the car fixed...Thanks again Toby will let you know what they say this time.

Clickmechanic have no answer to this problem and are now saying after nearly two weeks I need to cancel payments made and I have to raise a resolution against Simon for the alleged work carried out to get him involved....Can't believe what a poor service they provide. No back or chance of anyone else coming out to inspect or sort this issue as they are just a call centre...If Simon dose not get in touch then there is no solution at all available and I'm left out of pocket with a car I can't use...UNBELIEVABLE.....

Easily arranged on the Friday for a mechanic to look at my car the following Monday. He arrived within the specified time and diagnosed the problem in a friendly and knowledgeable manner. Then offered to arrange a quote for the work to be carried out. A much quicker and convenient alternative to using a garage.
