This is my first time using click mechanic and the reviews seemed good, a few neutral ones and but all in all it seemed a fair price. I am clued up on vehicles and will fix my own when it comes to a lot of jobs providing I have the space and tools. The main issue was the slave cylinder for the clutch which will not be replaced on its own which means a new clutch also. As everything is exposed I added an oil change and a drop link replacement on front drivers, drop link usually a 30 min job, quicker if already exposed.

I was called prior to pick up to be told recovery of the vehicle would be an additional ÂŁ150, I already stated my vehicle was not drivable and will need recovery and they quoted ÂŁ70 already accounted for, we agreed Monday pickup and they would need it over night, that seemed reasonable to me.

The person come to pick the car at about 9:30 am and withing the 8am to 10am window, I made sure the vehicle was facing the right way by pushing it around the car park before he got there. I guided the person picking the car up to where it was, he added some clutch fluid to try and get some clutch action, to no avail. So then he informed me his winch was broken and it will take ages to get on the trailer, he said he may be able to get it up there by starting it in gear, I cringed, but he is the mechanic. after that failed he said he would use his winch and I do not need ta hang around so I left. I only hope he did not try to start it in gear again when I left him too it.

Tuesday comes and by about 3pm I am getting worried, no communication, 5:30 comes still no communication.

Wednesday comes, I have a morning of meetings but still no communication or missed calls, Is my car on Ebay for spares or repairs ???, called them after the meeting and finally got a call back saying its bad news, I need a DMF and the work cannot be warrantied without me doing it, there was no wobbles, noises or odd behaviour from the clutch / DMF before then, I was confused as to what stress it was under, the car has sat where it failed.

I was given a price I could not afford but they then offered me an alternative deal for a new DMF , either way I was going to have to pay so took the alternative route in order to maintain my warranty on the work.

Wednesday the funds were released to the garage, I am so hopeful now I will get my car back Thursday, nope they can drop it off on friday morning, OK a lot later than expected, I am available between 9:30 and 10:30 in the morning after that I have meetings until 12:00, no will call you in the morning before we leave.

Morning came and passed with a call at 11:23, knowing I was in meetings. I called back 12:20 and reception and I then called back at 3:02pm as I got no response, I was told they had problems with their phone lines, he took additional payment from me, at this point i do not know if my car is fixed or not.

car got delivered back to me at around 3:50pm, the person driving it handed me an invoice for the additional work, I asked about for the main work he said call the office. handed me the key and the invoice and got into another car.

I got into my newly delivered car, started the engine and there were 2 warning lights on for ABS and traction control, I phoned immediately as they were not on when they took it and he said he would wait for driver to get back and let me know next steps.

during that process I thought I would make sure all other aspects of the car was all good, the clutch seemed to work, that's a bonus, while I drove it a short distance though Its was clear the engine was flat, i could not accelerate, I took it down the coast road just in case I was paranoid and no, coming back up hill the car topped out at 40 MPH, i told the garage this and they said its been standing for a while and they do not know what condition it come in so not a lot they can do but will come back to me on Monday.

I could not wait till Monday, got my trusty torch out to investigate, after inspection it was clear the boost was not kicking in probably due to vacuum losses, looking at where the vacuum pump is, it is possible it was removed in the process of changing the clutch. Found 1 hard to get to hose and 1 easy to get to hose disconnected, I attached them to there correct places and took it for another test drive and the car was back to near what I expected (not done a full test drive).

I am not happy with the time frames given and actuals, I am not happy with the communications and I am not happy with the excuse the problem may have already been there, I would have scrapped the car if I thought the turbo failed also. Luckily I was able to diagnose the issue and rectify it at no additional cost.

I was impressed with the service even though Euro part initially supplied the mechanic with the wrong part.
Punctuality communication and service I can’t fault.
I highly recommend Garry for anyone who’s in need of engine maintenance. It took just over an hour from start to finish to change a water pump at the side of the road.
