Chris called and then arrived early, as agreed. Sorted out the battery problem with no fuss. Very nice chap, more than willing to explain the problem - and sound a couple of early warnings at the same time. Couldn't have gone better. Thanks Chris (and ClickMechanic...).

AA patrol Glenn was very helpful and fitted the starter motor. He identified a poor electrical connection and managed to start the vehicle. He advised me to run the engine for a period to charge the flat battery. After turning off the engine I was able to start it again. Unusual messages had previously appeared on the instrument gauges and Glenn advised that I contact an autoelectrician to resolve a possible wiring fault.
