Iount was pleasant and competent for the works, he carried out the work in a methodical and thorough manner.
He also identified an ancillary issue of which I was not aware which needs attention much appreciated.

Ionut was booked in with me for a head gasket replacement. Firstly in the morning I had a message saying he would be late due to traffic. Not a great start. He turned up and started the work. During the works. He noticed a problem with the pistons. In which he rang me to go through. But seemingly he had no resolution to sort this. And was told you need to buy a 2nd hand engine? And what in fact he wanted to know was if I wanted the van put back together or not?! Considering he said this would only be half the Labour charge? So around £450 to strip a van down in the morning. And leave it in bits on my drive? Seriously thought this was an option? In which I was not happy. And talking to him further. I asked if the headgasket was replaced. With the piston still damaged would the van still start as he had in the morning. In which he said yes but could offer no warranty. As eventually the listing could further Damage new headgasket. So I agreed to this to actually enable me to drive my car to an actually garage for further repair. (Advised not to bother with new water pump or timing belt) although price was taken off for parts labour cost remained the same. After putting all parts back. And him ensuring me head had been pressure tested and skimmed. (Which I don’t agree that it has, considering no one turned up outside my house to do this. Neither did Ionut leave the van to get this done) engine would not even start. Neither did it even sound like it was going to start. I’m actually trying to start the van and looking puzzled and panicked that he couldn’t start it. The cranking time was exceeded on my van in which cut out the starter motor. In which he then had to plug in for diognostics and clear that fault along with others that were there. His last hop was to spray a whole can of easy start in the engine to try and get it started in which never worked. So now I’m over £1200 down. With a van that doesn’t start after works we’re completed. And after trying to resolve with Ionut. He just appeared to ignore messages and calls. Although Ionut appeared friendly enough. I’m not sure on how much knowledge he had on vehicles if things went wrong. The quality of work provided. And if all works paid for were actually performed Read more

Reply from Ionut:

To begin with, regarding the delay, I would like to mention that this was not intentional, but due to reasons beyond my control, namely heavy traffic.I'm sure everyone experiences this on a daily basis and I think it's a very understandable reason.
The first thing i did when i got to the scene was to start the engine which i managed to do after multiple attempts, for about a minute. When it finally started, it caught my attention both the excessive amount of smoke emitted from the exhaust pipe and a strange, atypical sound in cases of failure of the head gasket. My first instinct was to observe the engine and identify the source of the strange noise coming from it.
It didn't take long to realize that the pressure in the cylinders was being lost through the cooling system. Seeing this, I wanted to stop the engine as quickly as possible to avoid causing an unnecessary damage, but the engine stopped working before I could actually do this myself.
After all this, I started disassembling the engine to gain access to the cylinder head gasket. During disassembly I could clearly notice an unusual large amount of oil in the intake system which is not normal for a head gasket losing pressure through the cooling system. I concluded that the failure is more complex and involves other engine components. All these findings were photographed and reported to the customer at the time.
After about 3 hours of work I was able to remove the cylinder head, but my attention was drawn to the faulty pistons and I understood the real reason why the engine stopped working on its own.
I took a new set of photos which were sent to the customer. After a phone conversation with him where I explained that due to the faulty pistons the likelihood of the engine running again is very low (as the pressure required to run a diesel engine will no longer be able to be produced), at his request two options were offered:
1. Engine rebuilding, work that requires removing the engine from the car, cylinder grinding (operation necessary due to the marks left by the defective pistons) and replacing the pistons and rings with ones suitable for the new cylinder dimensions after grinding. All this implies a very high cost and a much longer working time.
2. A second-hand engine.

Seeing the client's indecision, a third option was suggested, namely the suspension of the works until a decision is made and the payment of the work submitted up to that moment, namely only for the installation, an amount approximately equal to half of the initial amount.Given the uncertainty that the engine will still work due to problems found, this third option was suggested in order for the customer not to waste money on both labor and the necessary parts.
After all this, the customer asked me to proceed with the assembly of the engine using the minimum of new parts ignoring all three previously options offered. A new quote was issued to the customer via the app and the new quote and continued work without warranty for labor and parts was accepted by the customer.

After the customer's acceptance I informed his wife that I would leave the location for a few minutes to hand over the cylinder head for checking. While it was being checked, I returned to the location to clean the engine block and remove the residue left from the old gasket. The client claims that he has footage that contradicts these actions of mine so I would like them to be kept for later action.
After installing the cylinder head, the client arrived home and asked me if I needed help. Seeing his intention to help, I suggested that after finishing the total assembly of the engine, he could help me start the engine by turning the key in the ignition, with which he was very happy. Seeing that after repeated attempts, the engine did not started, I plugged in diagnostics, which, thanks to the disconnection of the sensors, detected some faults which I eliminated.

in order to detect a possible error that persists, other attempts to start the engine were made and no error related to a faulty assembly of it was detected. In conclusion the engine failure is not due to the assembly and disassembly work performed by me, but to the faults previously mentioned (pistons, rings and scratched cylinder liners)
I believe the bill is justified based on the work performed and I see no reason to reduce it, even though the client has made attempts to get a reduction by contacting me privately and trying to bypass the application, action which I have not followed through.
Although initially the customer assumed responsibility and insisted that I continue the work and not taking into account my recommendations as a specialist, later he had a change of heart, being disappointed by the fact that the engine did not start.

Ionut was great. Arrived early and let me know that he was already on his way. Very thorough
with the Diagnostics eliminating all the the things it may have been. It,s an electric / solenoid engine mount that has failed. He then advised me to try to obtain a genuine Audi part if possible as the pattern parts sometimes have problems.
The Audi genuine part is £304.20 inc VAT, this will not be available for 5 / 6 days time from Monday
On Ebay is a Premier part Febi Bilstein £127.88 inc VAT can get this Wed or Thur...Your Thoughts.?

Ionut was very helpful and diagnosed the fault with my car. I had booked a coolant system pressure test as I suspected I had a leak somewhere. After conducting the test Ionut spent some time investigating to help find the source of the leak. He succeeded and explained where the leak was. As the car had just had a major service with Halfords it was taken back to them to repair but Ionuts knowledge allowed me to confidently push back to Halfords for the repair.
