The mechanic found the problem. And said it would cost about £600 to put right. I phoned a local garage and they said that they could do it for half the price.

Hi I’m sorry you feel I over quoted on the price but I was giving a rough estimate off the top my head for a head gasket timing chain kit replacement waterpump and to do and oil change and to replace the spark plugs and rocker cover gasket as well as the coolant and cleaning out the coolant reservoir to ensure the job was done properly.

It all seemed very quick c20minutes, so I'm not sure how rigarous the test/check was.
As I wasn't around I not sure how certain things were tested e.g brakes, engine oil.
