I used Prime One Motor for my annual service, MOT and an air conditioning check. Tas arrived promptly in the morning to collect the car and was very friendly. Communication via WhatsApp and phone was easy and responsive.

However, there were some issues that left me feeling disappointed and made me lose trust in their abilities.

My MOT failed due to a cut in a front tyre. I was asked how I wanted to proceed and I requested quotes for both mid-range tyres and a like-for-like (Bridgestone) replacement. I was then told the price for the Bridgestones (roughly 10% more expensive than my usual tyre shop, but still acceptable).
When I asked about mid-range options again I was told they had already ordered the Bridgestones and if I wanted something else they wouldn’t be able to fit them on time for a same-day return and re-check of my MOT. I felt pressured into taking the more expensive tyres without even being offered any alternative options.

The bigger concern was with the air-con check. I specifically booked and paid for leak detection because I know there’s a leak, since it was regassed last summer elsewhere, dye was added and it stopped working again after a couple of days. Despite this, I was told that there was “definitely no leak” and that it simply needed a regas. From what I was told, the system was only given a small amount of refrigerant (”it’s too expensive to put more”), but no pressure or vacuum test was carried out. My understanding is that an AC leak cannot be detected without sufficient pressure in the system and being advised to just pay an extra £120 as there was “definitely no leak” just seemed unprofessional.

In the end my tyres did not arrive on time either, and the car was only returned to me midday the next day, which may not have been their fault entirely, but this also made the argument of having to get the more expensive tyres as the cheaper ones would not get there on time for a same-day return seem like an unnecessary upsell.

Taking all of these issues into consideration, I don’t think I will be using Prime One Motor again.

Thank you for your detailed feedback. We would like to clarify a few important points regarding your concerns.

With regard to the tyres, once you confirmed that you wanted the Bridgestone tyres, we immediately placed the order and paid our supplier. The order was processed and dispatched straight away and unfortunately could not be amended after that point. There was no intention to pressure you into a more expensive option — we acted on the instruction given to avoid further delay with your MOT re-test.

In relation to the air conditioning system, we take this matter very seriously. We spent close to two hours investigating the reported leak and carried out thorough checks, including stripping down relevant components to properly inspect the system.
Based on our diagnostics and experience handling many previous air conditioning leak cases, we did not find any evidence of a leak at the time of testing. We would not advise a regas if we believed there was an active leak present. From our professional assessment, there was no detectable leak during our inspection.

Regarding the delay in returning your vehicle, there was an unexpected police incident which caused a road closure near our garage. This led to significant traffic disruption in the surrounding area and was unfortunately outside of our control.
