I myself am a vehicle technician, I have been so for 8 years now. I chose to use click mechanics for a Premium Pre Purchase inspection as the car I was potentially buying was over 250 miles away. Following Conor's inspection of the vehicle, the report he sent to me and the conversation we had, him stating it was in very good condition and had no current faults. I travelled to purchase the vehicle and drove it home. Upon arriving home I inspected the vehicle myself. I was not impressed with what I have found.

For a little context, the vehicle I have brought is a 1999 Mitsubishi Evo 6, so yes it is 25 years old and I fully did not expect a car that was in immaculate condition.
However, Conor's Pre Purchase Inspection should have indicated to me, any faults with the car that needed rectifying immediately/ in the near future. The first 2 faults I came across lead me to believe that Conor did not do a proper job inspecting the vehicle at all.

Firstly the horn does not work, after a little investigation (Popping out the button) you can see there isn't even any wiring leading to the horn button. Secondly the full beam headlights were inoperable, neither the drivers or passenger's side was working yet the indicator on the dash illuminated. Both of these checks had been reported as 'In working condition' which they are not. The same with the cigarette lighter.

This was not the end of the issues with the car though. It became apparent to me on the journey home, that the rear differential is very noisy (excessively so), also, the wheel alignment is off (vehicle pulling left), furthermore the exhaust was extremely loud. All checks on the report marked as 'Good' and 'In working condition'. On further inspection the catalytic converter has been removed from the exhaust and the internals of the exhaust backbox have been taken out, both things that should have been picked up on and reported.

Moving on to suspension and driveline, rather interestingly 4WD transmission had on the report been marked as 'Not fitted' yet it certainly is. On the journey home there was a plethora of knocks and bumps, which you can expect from this kind of vehicle, however, I have found excessive play in both rear anti-roll bar drop links and the nearside front anti-roll bar drop link. Furthermore the OSR wheel bearing itself has excessive play and was noisy / rough when rotated. I also discovered both front outer CV boots are split and leaking grease, they appear to have been for some time.

Overall thankfully the car got me home. I believe that potentially Conor was 'starry eyed' over the vehicle itself, as on the phone call he constantly referred to the vehicle as a 'Monster' and failed to mention any of the aforementioned faults. I was disappointed the advertised checks were not carried out properly, as knowledge of these faults would have helped weigh into if I should have purchased the vehicle, and potentially aided in any price negotiations.

Conor was friendly and was also flexible enough to reschedule on the day as the dealership couldn't make the car available at the time originally planned. This was very much appreciated.
However the inspection was not up to the standard expected when paying £160 for the top level of pre-purchase inspection.
Several items were incorrect on the report showing that the inspection was not as thorough as expected.
Air-con was listed as good - in working condition. This was incorrect it did not function and required workshop attention
Cruise control was listed as good - in working condition. This was incorrect, the car did not have cruise control (the advert was also incorrect stating it did, so I only had this inspection to verify this).
So clearly this check was not done.
Steering wheel alignment - Listed as good - in working condition. Not correct, the steering was obviously right hand down and very noticeable. Required workshop attention.

I purchased this top level inspection as I was travelling very far to collect the car so expected a higher level of service from this report. The notes were also very simplistic, three bullet points listing minor cosmetic issues. I would have expected a more detailed description including diagnostic report info as a minimum. Also only one interior picture was supplied showing the sunvisor only

I’m so disappointed with the service provided, first of all the mechanic was late to the booking time slot. I only booked the mechanic so I can have the peace of mind before buying a vehicle. I paid £122 for a mechanic that wasn’t knowledgeable and completed the checks within 15 minutes time which should take 2hours. After buying the vehicle due to unforeseen issues I had to take the car to the garage to find out the intercooler was all damaged and needed replacing if I knew this before hand I wouldn’t have purchased the car but the mechanic didn’t tell us that the intercooler was faulty and damaged didn’t tell me there was an issue with the engine and air flow in the car. First of all you only paid for a standard inspection I was there 1 hour total not 15 minutes we can prove this with are dash cam footage
Second we raised the damage to you when we spoke on the phone also can prove calls are recorded as I told you the car was involved in a crash as damage to bumper please read the inspection sheet properly we’re I have started this
