Mechanic (Billy Axle) was a nice enough person. He arrived slightly after the 13:00 deadline to the time slot, but not a worry. Of note was that the direct phone number given for him on the booking materials received was wrong (he has been told). More concerning is that, after a drive of about 300 meters he determined it was a "Torque converter renewal needed" (from the report). On making inquiries he let it be known that his company cannot do this and so that was all he could do. Considering it cost over £70, this is not what one expected. While I accept that it had nothing to do with Mr Axle, it is the process at ClickMechanic that is wrong. My explanation of the fault made it clear that this was the likely item in question and it would follow that whomever came to see it would be able to handle such jobs, even if not on-site. The prospect of the car being taken away to be fixed was one of the options on the ClickMechanic website, and this is -- at least in my outcome -- deceiving. To be told, after waiting several days with no car, that what I originally said it was is correct but that there is "nothing we can do about it" and that I should "find a local garage to fix it" is not what I expected. So ClickMechanic is a decent service, if you have minor issues or want an AA like service (with a multi-day, rather than multi-hour response, for about the same, if not higher price), but it is not effective and very much not worth the money paid if your issue is anything more than minor.
