They didn’t bring the tool needed for the job so I had to drive with them to their garage. Then on the way back I stoped over at my local garage and they gave me a completely different diagnostic to the one that I was given by these people. Turns out my alternator isn’t faulty after all. I was going to spend hundreds replacing it if I’d listened to these mechanics.
