Andrew C
I began my career studying at City of Bristol College to gain my NVQ qualifications. My first role was with All About Bikes in Bristol for over 3 years before moving to Porsche Mode for 12 months then onto a local independent in the South West for 4 years. I set-up my own business in 2014 trading as AC Automotive. The business caters for all makes/models & repairs offering a mobile service within a 50 mile radius of our base.

Andy was first class considering it seemed to be a much bigger job and more awkward to do than anticipated. He had his own way of getting to the steering pump on my sons Ford Fiesta MK6 without the need to drop the sub frame as it states in the Haynes manual.
The job was a nightmare as he stated himself, however he persevered even tough it took ages to do because of the sheer awkwardness, the access and the amount of disassembly. He was very friendly and knowledgeable and helpful form the outset. I would recommend him, as he has 12 years experience which clearly shows.

Andrew was very good, listened to what I had done and then started checks. Although he was not able to come to a definitive cause we agreed on further work to change a part that was suspect and that I already had.

Part changed next day and car is fully functional again, Brilliant work.

Yes, Andrew was a fine representative of your company. However I have an issue with the price as detailed below:
Parts included
£210.43 Alternator
£17.69 Alternator drive belt
Subtotal
£54.88 Labour
£228.12 Parts
Total
£283.00
The cost of the alternator being £210.43 is too high as I obtained this price from West Lancs Autos

Your Quotation - Ref: 39902
Dear david tatlow, Thank you for requesting a quotation.

Type: New Alternator
Vehicle Registration: AJ05DBZ
The vehicle manufacturer has released multiple fitment options for your Alternator. However, we have a detailed sophisticated system which has confirmed the correct unit for your vehicle.

Price £124.90 inc. VAT with Free Delivery & 18 Month Warranty*
As there are multiple fitment, type and quality options for your vehicle available from other suppliers, please be VERY careful when comparing quotes or looking online.

Which as you can see is substantially lower than I paid. This price was also lower than the figure quoted by Clickmechanic.
So, what to make of this? The figure quoted to me ( which I paid) must include a certain degree of loading(profit) for Clickmechanic / the engineer?
So I paid £283 for the labour + alternator + replacement belt. I , as a simple private customer could have bought for £140 or so . Hence I was paying approx. £140 for the convenience of it being replaced. This I was prepared to do because of my circumstances . However ordinarily I would simply have bought the parts and got them fitted by an independent garage. Another figure I was quoted of £326 was even higher -too much for this job.
The concept of clickmechanic is great but I felt that the p[rices weren't completely transparent. I paid over the odds but was pleased to to do so as wanted the car back on the road. The cost of the parts must include a high profit margin . I wouldn't have paid £326 for an alternator replacement on a 13 year old Golf. I would have taken my time and got it done elsewhere. The call out and diagnosis fee of £50 is fine.

Regards,

David Tatlow

Reply from Andrew:

The contract you entered into is with Click Mechanic, you agreed a price with them for this job. It was very unpleasant to have to read my review page and see such comments directed at my personal profile after I have done what you asked of me.
My first visit to carry out a diagnostic on your Daughters car was completed with the diagnosis of requiring a new Alternator. You originally thought your engine was seized but it turned out that the Alternator bearing was seized and the belt required changing. A far lesser cost than anticipated initially by yourself.
You were offered at that time a chance of immediate repair but chose to wait for an out of stock item to arrive a lower price.
Yesterday evening my PA rang you and left a message to explain that your part had not been delivered to myself last night and would be collected in the morning by myself, hence a small punctuality issue but well explained. I attended your address today with Peter Kerr the Sales Manager for Click Mechanic shadowing me for the day.
You entertained him with cups of tea/coffee in your house whilst I fixed your car.
You behaved in a pleasant manner, spoke of zero ill feeling. I left you with a working vehicle and went to my next job.
I would appreciate that you put your nicer part of yourself forwards and ask Click Mechanic to remove this review off my personal profile as many businesses have varying price structures and what happened is not my responsibility as I have the set supplier of Euro Car Parts and am employed by Click Mechanic and not yourself.
One last point " I would have taken my time and got it done elsewhere" is that your vehicle was not able to be driven due to its fault so a mobile service or collection by breakdown truck would have been required and costly.

Andrew did an excellent job. He phoned me during the window he was due to arrive and confirmed an actual time of arrival. The work was done well and everything was clean after he left us. Really helpful feedback on the car and any areas that will need looking at but no attempt to push for more work to be done than I'd ordered. Will definitely be using him again when my wife's car needs servicing.
