I arrived at my holiday flat where my camper van is stored after leaving London in the early morning only to find a text on my phone sent at 5.30 am saying the appointment needed to be rebooked because Lee's van had a failed clutch. This information should have been communicated via a phone call to save an unnecessary long trip. In all fairness , Lee did offer me another appointment in 5 hours so I waited.
He arrived punctually and I explained the problem explaining that I thought it might be a fuel valve solenoid or fuel pump problem. I also repeated the information that I had previously sent explaining that the fuel gauge and odometer panel had also both mysteriously failed at exactly the same moment the van had failed to start after running OK only a few moments before, pointing towards a possible blown fuse problem. I was a little surprised that Lee asked me where the location of all the fuse boxes on a VW T4 diesel van were ,as I thought my detailed written request for assistance might have prompted Lee to have found this information before his visit.
I retrieved the VW owners manual which agreed with Lee's comments that there may be accessory fuse boxes fitted under the front seats in certain models. The manual clearly described the location of the 2 standard fuse boxes below the steering column and all of these fuses were good. Lee was keen to try and isolate a power line to the fuel valve solenoid but said that there was no access to do so. He was adamant that I had to find out where the other fuse boxes were located so as to exclude a simple electrical fault. My time was now up and he was not optimistic about moving forward with any kind of repair at that stage.
After he had left, I studied the owners manual again and it clearly described what sort of fuses would be housed in additional fuse boxes that Lee was looking for. On further reading I discovered that I did not have any of the accessories that needed these fuses and as a result these additional fuse boxes were not fitted.
So in summary, this call out of a friendly pleasant mechanic resulted in confirming that all the fuses that could possibly be present were good and left me very little else to go on with regard to fixing my van. Read more

Very good guy who really understands his job. Also very patient with diagnosis. We fix the problem in the end. Highly recommended.

Lee was friendly. He seems like an experienced mechanic, but he forgot to bring his diagnostic computer, so he gave me a diagnosis based on his own criteria, which I don't think is professional considering it's a BMW and this brand of vehicle requires that the mechanic use a diagnostic computer as an aid during a service
