Swb Fleet Maintenance , Lincolnshire | ClickMechanic

Steven B
I started my career in a small local BMW approved garage where I completed my apprenticeship and served my time. I joined the Army working for 8 years as a universal mechanic looking after a wide variety of vehicles from motorbikes to tanks. In 2016 I set-up SWB Fleet Maintenance operating as a mobile mechanic. The business caters for all makes/models & repairs from small classic cars right through to artic trucks.
our 2nd mechanic has come direct from AUDI and is a master tech, with many years service.

Steven agreed to have a look to see if he could change the bearing, I warned him that he needed a workshop press to press out the old bearing. He spent 1.25 hrs and failed to remove the old bearing. I have now received a charge to my card for 1.25 hrs labour, £58.75

I had to take the car to a garage and they have completed the bearing change at a total cost of £140.58 which includes the labour of 1.50 hrs of £75.00.(An invoice is available)

Whilst I agreed to Steven having a look to see if he could do the work I did not expect to be charged for 1.25 hrs labour and not do the work when I was able to get the complete job done by a garage at a charge of 1.
50 hrs labour. The parts were not seized as stated on the booking receipt

I therefore request a refund of £58.75 to my credit card.

Reply from Steven:

i agreed to take the job as requested by click mechanic as no one else would accept the job. I informed the customer that it really is a workshop repair that should be carried out and yet still the customer asked me to go ahead. After trying and unsuccessfully managing to remove the hub i informed the customer that if i applied any more force other parts were likely to be damaged in the process. it was agreed to reassemble the vehicle so that it was still road worthy and book it in to a workshop. i even suggested a local garage (which the customer used), and reduced the 2.5 hours labour spent on the customers drive (not including travel) to 1. 25 hrs. A fair compromise for all.
I am an incredibly fair mechanic and understand all issues that arise. If the customer felt any thing was an issue they should have spoken to me directly.
I am upset with the scoring and find it very unfair considering the advise and professionalism i have showed.
