Adrian at Bates Motors was dreadful, honestly. Didn't bother telling the recovery driver there was a time window he was supposed to arrive by, so my wife was sat for another 4 hours past the window with no word as to when he'd arrive. Communication was terrible all the way through. The money was taken long before the job was done - money went, I was expecting the car to come back the next day just to be told, 'we're still working on it' - well, don't take the money then. As soon as he said more work was needed I wanted the car back as soon as possible. Looking the mechanic up online he has about three or four different addresses listed. At one point he'd taken the money, had the car, I didn't know where the car was and he wasn't answering messages. Stressful, not good at all. Luckily the work that was carried out was ok but on the whole it was not a nice experience.

The mechanic that carried out an oil change was great. Adrian was just not great to deal with.
I have since been using a local mechanic and he has stated that he's had two more people go and see him that had previously had dealings with Adrian @ Bates and wish they hadn't. Read more

Communication is poor. Picked up my car at 8:45am on 1 July. I was expecting it to be returned same day in the evening but it was not. Send messages to ask for eta and finally replied saying first thing tomorrow morning.
2nd July waited for car to be delivered as I needed it to get to work, text messages were not answered. At 10 am I called and was told it should be on its way… waited till 1pm no car still.
Text messages were not replied. I had to find alternative transportation which is very inconvenient. Car was returned later on that day while I was at work and again no message or text to tell me that it has been returned.

Bates’ collected my car during the allotted time, called me regarding the MoT and delivered it back later that afternoon. Great service from a local company

Bates did very well. They collected on time, carried out the work and bought the MOT certificate when returning my vehicle and sent service report via Clickmechanic online. Very polite, very reasonable costs. Excellent service so highly recommend.

Car was picked up from work so I didn't see the mechanic but an excellent job thank you 🙂👍

Arrived an hour and a half after the allotted time slot given. No communication until I contacted. Was told that the garage didn’t open until 08:30 - not sure why I had been given the time slot 08:00-10:00.
Car was in for an MOT and major service. Again, no communication until the car arrived back at 19:00. Asked if car had passed and was told ‘I’m just the driver’. Checked paperwork, where there was an advisory indicating some minor work required. Had I have known, I would have got the work completed whilst car in garage.
Overall, was disappointed with the late collection (had chosen time slot due to other commitments) and general lack of communication. Would not use again which is a shame given the positive reviews seen. Read more
