I booked a Premium Pre-Car Purchase Inspection for Friday 24th July. I am very disappointed with the service and I would recommend anyone considering this service to use an alternative supplier for the following reasons.
- I booked a time slot from 10am until 12 midday. The car was with its original owner so I did not want to inconvenience him. The mechanic called me after midday and he was not aware a slot had been booked. He arrived later that day.
- The premium option includes a 185-point check. The report I received had 27 points. Whilst I understand things may be grouped together, even with that in mind this did not cover the original list.
- The report I received did not even cover the basic check.
- The report took 5 days to come through, which is considerably longer than the expectation of “once the inspection is complete you will receive the report”. I even had to chase the mechanic for this.
- I went and purchased the car about 1 hour after the inspection took place, as I did receive a call from the mechanic explaining the car is in ok good condition; it did need brakes (which I had fitted through Click Mechanic two days later). And a small suspension item, but that was mostly it.
- Whilst there had been a couple of warning lights come up when I initially test drove the car, the mechanic said he did not record anything from plugging into the car. Within 2 miles of driving off, I had two warning lights come up on the dash.
- I know that historical codes should show on a report. I did question the mechanic on this and he assured me there was nothing showing. On reflection, I should have pushed back.
- I have since found out from the guy I purchased the car from that the mechanic DID NOT EVEN TEST DRIVE THE CAR, which is part of even a basic check.

Once I got the car home, I decided to look around myself in detail, and I found a very obvious oil leak. This was not mentioned by the mechanic and did not show on his report.

I have since taken the car to the garage, and under the engine plastic cover there is a huge amount of oil that has been there for some time and could be either a DPF issue but that had previously been sorted or (most likely) the injector copper washers and O-rings.

I am now left with a car that needs quite major work, that if I had known these items needed done, I would not have purchased the car. I could understand if it was something deep in the engine that’s hidden but it took the garage I went too literally seconds to see the oil and less than a minute to take off the engine cover.

I am hugely disappointed with the slapdash report that does not cover anything like the promise of the basic report, let alone the premium one.

To future buyers, I say proceed with caution or stick to household names. I think the least Click Mechanic can do at this point is refund me to go towards the repair that I now face. If the check had been done correctly, then I would not have purchased the car/had this expense. Read more
