How can we help?
Can I Choose Between a Garage and a Mobile Mechanic?
When you book a car repair or service with ClickMechanic, you might be wondering:
"Will the mechanic be mobile?"
"Can I choose a garage instead?"
"I want a mobile mechanic to come to me."
"How do I get a mechanic that collects my car?"
The short answer is: Yes, you can tell us your preference, and we’ll do our best to match you with either a mobile mechanic or a garage based on your needs and the job requirements.
✅ Can I Choose Between a Garage and a Mobile Mechanic?
Yes! When you make a booking, we automatically send your request to both mobile mechanics and garages that cover your area. The job is then accepted by the first provider who meets the job requirements — but only if they also meet any preference you’ve shared in your booking notes.
📝 How to Share Your Preference
If you want to request a mobile mechanic or a garage with collection, here’s what to do:
Start your booking as usual.
In the “Additional Notes” section, type in your request — for example:
“I’d prefer a mobile mechanic if possible.”
“Please assign a garage that offers collection and delivery.”
Complete your booking as normal.
👉 Important: Your notes will be visible to garages and mobile mechanics. Only a provider who can meet your request will accept the booking. This helps ensure your preference is honoured wherever possible.
🔧 What Type of Jobs Can Mobile Mechanics Do?
Customers often ask:
“Can a mobile mechanic do a full service?”
“Can they fix brakes at home?”
“Is it OK if my car won’t start?”
The answer: Mobile mechanics can carry out many common repairs, such as:
Interim and full services
Brake replacements
Battery, starter motor, and alternator replacements
Fault diagnostics and some suspension work
However, some larger jobs (like clutch or timing belt replacements) require specialist equipment only found in a garage setting.

🚘 If Your Car Is Drivable
Garages offer FREE collection and delivery.
Mobile mechanics can work at your home or workplace — if the job is suitable.
🆘 If Your Car Is NOT Drivable
If a garage accepts the booking, a £70 recovery fee will apply.
If a mobile mechanic is assigned, they’ll come to your location and complete the job if safe and appropriate.
