Poor Running (No EML) Diagnostic
Typical Cost: Low
Mobile Repair? Yes
Typical Lead Time: 2 - 24 hours depending on mechanic availability
What is a poor running (no EML) diagnostic?
Despite the vast array of engine management sensors that monitor your engines performance and emissions, there are occasions where the vehicle doesn’t run as smoothly as it once did, but it doesn’t bring up any warnings.
When this occurs, diagnostics are still fundamental to locating its cause and therefore it’s resolution. Whilst cheap error code readers are fine for doing generic engine code checks, this is only a fraction of the codes generated by the manufacturer’s specific tables.
A diagnostic check is much more than an error code read though, it’s sophisticated (and expensive!) equipment that not only reads the manufacturer specific codes, but can also read the live data output from the sensors.
The mechanic will also undertake a physical examination of the powertrain as well, if no apparent electronic indication of the issue is found.
What happens during a poor running diagnostic?
The mechanic will need to access vehicles electronic control units (ECU) via the OBD port inside the vehicle. Please be aware that on some vehicles these are in covered areas such as under the ashtray, at the back of a storage hole or even in the glove box, so the mechanic will need to remove anything that is blocking access to it.
- The mechanic will go through the diagnostic error code and read live data to pinpoint the cause(s) of the issue.
- Mechanic will physically examine the vehicle’s powertrain for potential faults, such as intake air leaks, boost hose leak etc
- If the cause of the issue requires additional work and parts, the mechanic will provide you with a quotation and a detailed description of the fault(s)

FAQ’s
Can I supply my own parts?
No, we will not fit customer supplied parts unless they are a brand new item, purchased from a dealership with the receipt as proof of purchase. There is no flexibility over this due to insurance and warranty issues.
