What is a battery drain investigation?
With the ever increasing reliance on electrically controlled functions and gadgets, batteries can quite frequently suffer from what is known as a parasitic battery drain. This is when a battery goes flat over a short period of time when the car isn’t being used. Due to the bewildering array of electronic items that could cause it, a thorough investigation of the circuits is required in order to pinpoint the cause of the drain.
What are the typical symptoms of a battery drain fault?
- Constant flat battery after leaving the vehicle for a short period of time.
- Poor starting efficiency (slow engine turn over) after being left for a while.
What happens during a battery drain investigation?
Due to the number of circuits that the mechanic will need to go through in turn, they can literally find it on the first circuit to be tested, or the last!
- The mechanic will ensure the battery is fully charged
- The mechanic will disconnect the battery and insert a multi-tester in the circuit.
- Mechanic will then go through each circuit in turn to monitor the current draw
- Once a likely source of the drain is detected, further recommendations for its rectification will be made where possible.
Please note that there are cases where there is a fault that can be detected, but the mechanic is unable to rectify and you may be referred to a dealership or specialist for its resolution.

FAQ’s
Can I supply my own parts?
No, we will not fit customer supplied parts unless they are a brand new item, purchased from a dealership with the receipt as proof of purchase. There is no flexibility over this due to insurance and warranty issues.
