I never actually met our mechanic Charlie but I did get to speak to him after his pre-purchase report carried out at the dealer’s premises which we read along with key accompanying photographs. My son has literally just past his test and is itching to get driving but of course he isn’t going to be driving anything close to new - I know enough about cars to know I need someone who actually does know about cars before parting with any money. Likewise I want an older affordable high mileage car judged for what is rather than against the benchmark of new; lots will be worn/uncertain but will it be safe for my boy and his passengers [esp if its me! ;-)] is the no 1 Q. I think I got the relevant information I needed to conclude this car wasn’t for him; not what he wanted to hear - esp as the car was in the main in v good condition - but not one needing an engine rebuild anytime soon! -Avoiding a disaster was money well spent.
