Klarna Says Payment Options Aren’t Available in Your Region or Currency
If you’re trying to pay with Klarna but you see a message saying that Klarna payment options aren’t available in your region or currency, even though you live in an area they support, a few different things may be causing this.
The steps below will help you resolve the issue quickly.
Why this happens
Klarna uses several checks to confirm:
your location,
your billing address,
your device settings, and
your network connection.
If any of these look like they’re from a different country, Klarna may block the payment options for security reasons.
One common cause is a VPN or privacy app that makes your internet connection appear to come from another region.
How to Fix the Issue
1. Check if you're using a VPN or privacy service
Some apps can hide or change your location without you realising it, including:
VPN apps (e.g., NordVPN, ExpressVPN, Surfshark, etc.)
Browsers with built-in VPN (Opera, Brave, etc.)
Workplace devices with automatic VPNs
Antivirus software with “secure browsing” features
What to do
Turn off the VPN or privacy feature
Close and reopen your browser
Try the Klarna application again
Most customers find that Klarna works immediately once the VPN is off.
- Try another connection (recommended) If you're not sure whether something is affecting your location, try:
✔ Switching to mobile data
✔ Connecting through a different Wi-Fi network
✔ Using a different device (e.g., phone instead of laptop)
Mobile data is often the quickest way to bypass hidden VPN or network routing.
- Check your device’s region settings Make sure the following match your actual country:
Phone or laptop region settings
Language settings
Time zone
If any of these are set to another country, Klarna may block the application.
- Double-check your billing address If the address you enter doesn’t match the address on your bank or card account, Klarna may decline the request for security reasons.
Make sure:
the postcode,
street address, and
account holder name
Match exactly what your bank has on file.
- Try again after taking the steps above Once you've:
turned off any VPNs,
checked your settings, and
confirmed your address,
Try your Klarna application again.
