How can we help?
What does a diagnostic inspection include, and what should I expect?
A diagnostic inspection helps identify the cause of a problem with your car and what may be needed to fix it. It includes either a mechanic coming to the vehicle’s location or free collection and delivery, provided the vehicle is drivable.
The standard time allowed for the inspection is 0.9 hours (54 minutes). The mechanic uses that time to investigate the symptoms you’ve described. Checks depend on the problem, so an inspection isn't a fixed checklist or a simple fault-code scan.
Before the appointment
When you book, describe what happens, when it happens and whether any warning lights are showing. Mention if the problem comes and goes. Make sure the mechanic can access the vehicle and its keys, whether they are inspecting it at its location or collecting it.
During the inspection
The mechanic will review the symptoms, inspect the relevant parts of the vehicle and carry out appropriate checks. They may use diagnostic equipment where it helps investigate the fault.
After the inspection
The mechanic will explain what they found, provide a report and recommend the next step. If the fault does not occur during the inspection or cannot be confirmed within the time allowed, the mechanic should explain what they checked and whether further investigation is needed.
A minor issue may be resolved during the booked inspection time if no additional parts or labour are needed. If a repair needs parts, more time or another appointment, you should receive a separate quote through ClickMechanic before deciding whether to go ahead. Additional parts are not included in the inspection price.
You are under no obligation to accept a quote for follow-on repairs.
Please keep any follow-on bookings and payment on ClickMechanic so the agreed work is recorded in one place.
