I am qualified as an electrical hydraulic engineer and that is what I done by trade subsequently after this I worked in a garage for 2 years doing mechanical repairs and this allowed me to get good experience on various repairs, but I will only tackle repairs that I am fully competent on so that gives you piece of mind!
