Reply from Paul:
The old part carries a surcharge of £50 from the supplier of the replacement and has to be returned to them in order for me to get the surcharge back. This is common for most alternators and starter motors. Please check for yourself with any of the main factors. I had to return the old part or I would have lost £50

I'm not at all mechanically minded, and spending up to £10000 on a 2nd hand car is a worrying experience.
This was SO much cheaper than an AA or RAC check.
He phoned me up not long after the inspection to give me a quick verbal run-down. He explained things very well, and filled me with confidence that he'd done a good job.
I had issues explained to me that I'd never have picked up on, along with ways they could be solved, and ideas on pricing.
He even apologised (at around 4:30pm when he phoned) that he wouldn't be able to send the report until later!! (That arrived at around 6pm)
I was confident enough to return to the dealer to explain why I wouldn't be purchasing, and what the problems were.
I'm currently waiting for them to agree fixes, or reduce the price!!

Although Paul was 1 hour late he did ring me in advanced to make me aware of this. He came across friendly and polite. I was a bit skeptical to begin with as he carried out the work very quickly. It's been one week since the work was carried out and the brakes are working great since being replaced. So far so good. Would hire again.
