I booked a battery replacement for a Merc. Quoted cost £194. Appointment booked for 10-12 the following day. Mechanic - Moses - got in touch by text to say there are 2 batteries and it would be more expensive @ £228. I authorised this.

I subsequently found that he had demanded £94 in cash on top of the £206 I'd been charged on my card (and yes, no explanation as to why £228 was now £206). My ex-partner felt she had no option to pay, as he wanted to march her to a cashpoint there and then. No receipt was given (and she subsequently found the old battery chucked in a hedge beside her car).

I got in touch with ClickMechanic the following morning at 0716 to request an explanation and refund of the cash payment. They replied at 1137, confirming that the cash had indeed been asked for, against company policy yet refusing to refund me the difference unless the mechanic returned and took out the new battery and put in the old battery. Oh, and the old battery was put in a bin - when it should have been disposed of properly - another breach of policy.

I asked for this to be escalated and I have had no acknowledgement or reply. It's now been more than 26 hours. They were quick to take my money and booking but seem unable to deal with rogue mechanics in their network.

The service claims to offer "instant fixed price quotes" and "fully qualified and vetted mechanics". "Trusted mechanics" who charge extra cash payments, against company policy, and the company don't appear to care. I want the cash payment refunded. Nothing more. And an apology would be appreciated. The mechanic went to check out a car we were looking at buying, so didnt meet him but he communicated with the sellers and all parties were happy.
Our report was prompt and we spoke with him the following day and consequently purchased the car reassured.
