What are windscreen wiper blades?
Windscreen wiper blades are used to both clear the water from the screen (front and back where appropriate) during rain, but also to clear snow, debris and dust when used in conjunction with the vehicle's washer fluid system.
How does a wiper blade work and what are the components?
In the majority of cases, the wipers consist of a metal arm, with the rubber blade attached to it, that are manoeuvreed across the screen by the wiper linkage, powered by a wiper motor. All modern vehicles have one or two permanently on settings and one intermittent setting, which in a lot of cases can be altered in frequency by the driver, according to the conditions.
The traditional method of activating the system was from the driver manually operating a switch or column stalk. However most modern cars have rain sensitive settings where the wipers will come on automatically when there is water detected on the screen.
The wiper blade is kept at a constant pressure when it moves across the screen by the sprung wiper arm.
Typical symptoms that require wiper blades to be replaced.
- You may start to see streaks across the screen during their operation in rain
- Water is no longer being cleared efficiently by the blades
- You may even notice that the leading edge of the blade has started to come adrift from the main body of the blade

FAQ’s
Can I supply my own parts?
No, we will not fit customer supplied parts unless they are a brand new item, purchased from a dealership with the receipt as proof of purchase. There is no flexibility over this due to insurance and warranty issues.
What happens if the mechanic finds that the wiper blades do noy require changing and the problem is due to another issue?
In this scenario, the mechanic will provide a no obligation quote for the correct repair. Should you accept this, the mechanic can alter the booking accordingly. If you decide not to go ahead with the alternative repair, the mechanic can change the booking to a call out and diagnostic booking and charge according to the time spent with the vehicle and call out.
